playing with someone else's bricks
In 2000 I got myself a CD writer which came bundled with various bits of software. One such program was the wonderful Acid Music, which I'd heard about but never used. It's as much fun as I'd heard it was, and I quickly started to produce various satisfying noises with it. The program comes with a collection of ready-made samples to get you started, and by chance they happen to fit in with my somewhat eclectic tastes, including loops from various Indian, Middle-Eastern, Native American and Asian musics.
The program's arrival coincided with my newly reactivated interest in creating music, and it has the great advantage that working with loops can give pleasing (to me at least) results very quickly.
Anyway, the result is a CD's worth of tracks made up largely from the supplied samples (hence the idea of playing with someone else's bricks...).
So far I haven't got any sample clips for you to try here or got myself sorted with an MP3 download site for full tracks, but maybe these things will happen some time...
In the meantime I'm oddly pleased with the artwork I did for the CD (it's not publicly available - I'm planning to rely on MP3 for that, but I've done some copies of the CD for a few friends). Pop back from time to time to see if anything to listen to has arrived here, but don't hold your breath...
